Newcastle vs Leicester betting preview

It's a massive night for both clubs for entirely different reasons.

Liverpool's draw with Aston Villa on Saturday means Newcastle need just one point from their final two games to secure Champions League football for next season.

Eddie Howe's men have had it in their hands for some time now and could finally secure that top four spot in front of their own jubilant supporters.

The Toon were last here just last Thursday when batting aside a Brighton team who'd just won comfortably at the Emirates a few days prior.

That 4-1 triumph was wrapped up late on but Howe's side could well have gone into the break with a commanding lead had they taken their chances.

This is a fixture they've enjoyed in recent season, winning four of the last five meetings with Leicester, with the Foxes' current form making it an even more appealing game for the hosts.

But incredibly, Leicester still have survival in their own hands, with neither of their direct competitors securing wins at the weekend.

Everton's dramatic late equaliser and Leeds' thumping loss at West Ham leaves Dean Smith's side just three points off the Toffees and with a better goal difference.

A win for them tonight would take them out the relegation zone heading into next weekend's final game – at home to European finalists West Ham.

However, they've conceded 10 goals in their last three games – including five at Fulham – and picked up just five points in their last nine games.

And with Newcastle scoring four goals on two occasions and six goals in their recent win over Tottenham, it's defensively that could prove a real concern for the visitors.

Toon on top

As a result of all of that, it's very difficult to envisage anything other than a Newcastle win here.

An early goal would certainly help them too, as any longer than that and things could get edgy.

But they've shown recently they can deal with a bit of tension and they have far too much firepower at the top end of the pitch.

Particularly given they've kept just two clean sheets in their last nine games….

  • Our tip: Newcastle to win and 4+ goals in the match at 7/5 with William Hill

Yellow Fox

It's difficult to predict the current Leicester side, given the chopping and changing – particularly at the back.

Ricardo Pereira has returned from injury recently though and could slot back in at right back tonight, where he has an almighty task on his hands.

The Portuguese looks set to come up against Alexander Isak in that position, with some potential changes late on bringing on Allan Saint-Maximin.

Not the two attackers you want to face directly and having been booked last time out in his reappearance game, he is a solid bet to make it 2/2.

  • Our tip: Ricardo Pereira to be carded at 3/1 with William Hill

Al or nothing

Miguel Almiron started the season like a house on fire, before going quiet in recent weeks.

He found his place under threat for the run-in before a couple of typically tireless performances got him back in, with Jacob Murphy's injury keeping him out.

He showed against Brighton how important he is for Newcastle with and without the ball.

Given Callum Wilson's current form, the remainder of the first goalscorer odds have been inflated and this could be a good time to pounce on Miggy getting back amongst the goals — just as he did when Newcastle ran into a quick 2-0 lead at the King Power on Boxing Day.

  • Our tip: Miguel Almiron to score first at 7/1 with William Hill
