Bookies forced to slash odds on Willie Mullins runner in Grand National | The Sun

BOOKIES have slashed the odds on a Willie Mullins runner in the Grand National after a surge of market support.

The Irish trainer is going for just his second win in the world's most famous race after Hedgehunter's 2005 success.

Mullins has not dominated Aintree in the same way he has made Cheltenham his own.

But it is for recent Festival winner Gaillard Du Mesnil that the money has come.

Gaillard Du Mesnil was a fortunate winner of the National Hunt Chase when leader Mahler Mission came down two from home.

That win over 3m6f looks to have set the seven-year-old gelding in the Donnelly colours up nicely for the National.

And the vibes from Closutton must be good after William Hill reported money coming in on Monday.

The horse was cut from 16-1 to 14-1 – the same price as Mullins' other runner Mr Incredible.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: "We’ve seen a good deal of money today for Gaillard Du Mesnil in the Grand National market, and have been forced to cut him from 16-1 into 14-1 as a result.

"Mullins’ seven-year-old proved himself a strong stayer when winning the National Hunt Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

"Punters seem to think Mullins could be on course for a second National win to add to Hedgehunter’s 2005 success, as he now shares fourth place in the market with his stablemate Mr Incredible at 14-1."

Ultima winner Corach Rambler remains the rock solid market leader at around 5-1.

The Lucinda Russell-trained runner is 10lb well in and looks sure to relish the step up to over four miles.

Last year's champ Noble Yeats remains around the 8-1 mark.

While Cheltenham Cross Country winner Delta Work can be backed at 11-1 with Bet365.

Any Second Now, who will carry top weight for trainer Ted Walsh, is a drifter with Hills out 16-1 from around 14s.

The world's most famous race will be off at 5.15pm on Saturday, April 15.

There will be a huge police presence at the track after it emerged a vegan mob were planning to sabotage the race.
