Brendan Rodgers' Celtic return 'like taking back cheating wife' says Rod Stewart as he takes brutal Ange Postecoglou dig | The Sun

CELTIC-DAFT rocker Sir Rod Stewart blasted Brendan Rodgers for RUINING his holiday four years ago.

But it seems he's ready to forgive and forget as Rodgers closes-in on his dramatic Hoops return – well, just about.

Rodgers, 50, is on the cusp of a stunning return to Celtic for a second spell as boss as Ange Postecoglou's replacement.

It comes four years after his shock exit for Leicester City, in the middle of the season with the Hoops gunning for another treble.

The way Rodgers departed left Celtic fans enraged, with many still left with a sour taste to this day.

Hoops fan Sir Rod was one supporter who was left fuming back in February 2019.

He blasted at the time: "It's ruined my holiday! I actually got a bit choked up I must admit.

"Obviously he was going to go sooner or later, but I would have thought he would have seen out the next two-and-a-half months and get the treble Treble if possible.

"I think there might be a lot of ill-feeling at Celtic now with the fans with him leaving us in the lurch."

Well, with Rodgers' appointment now seeming imminent, Sir Rod was asked what he thinks about the Northern Irishman's remarkable return.

Appearing on talkSPORT alongside Rangers legend Ally McCoist and fellow Celtic fan Alan Brazil, Stewart, with an amusing comparison, said: "I don't know.

"For me, it's like when your wife's left you and gone off with someone else and come back.

"That's how I feel about it.

"Forgive and forget – he's the right guy for the job now. He loves attacking football, Ange has left him a wonderfully attacking side."

So it's forgive and forget – but not so much for Ange Postecoglou.

Just as he was with Rodgers' exit, Sir Rod isn't pleased with how Postecoglou handled his departure for Spurs.

And in a scathing blast, Stewart claims he'll be asking for his gifts back from the now former Celtic boss!

He said: "I'm a bit disappointed with Ange.

"Every time they beat Rangers, I'd send him a crate of wine. So I'm going to ask for it back now!

"I was hoping he'd stay and lead us into the Champions League.

"The one thing that upset me – we were at the final – all this walking about, kissing the badge, holding the trophy. Why didn't he tell us before?

"If I was in his position, I'd be straight up. 'It's been a great two years but I've got an opportunity I can't refuse, I'm going to go down and manage Spurs.' "

McCoist then turned attentions to whether or not Postecoglou might try and poach some of his Celtic stars.

Sir Rod said: "That'll make him very unpopular if he tries to take Kyogo!"

McCoist, smirking, joked: "I think he should!"

Postecoglou has been linked with a move for talisman Kyogo while Tottenham are also understood to be monitoring midfield ace Reo Hatate.

The 57-year old Australian now knows what his first Premier League game in charge will be.

It'll be a trip across London to take on Brentford.
