Chelsea star Billy Gilmour wanted in last-minute Brighton transfer with Thomas Tuchel exiling Scotland midfielder | The Sun

BRIGHTON are reportedly plotting a last-minute swoop for Chelsea star Billy Gilmour.

The 21-year-old failed to make an impact on loan with Norwich last season.

He returned to Chelsea in the summer after failing to stop the Canaries from getting relegated from the Premier League.

But Gilmour was handed a new contract by the Blues upon his return despite his forgettable loan experience at Norwich.

However, the Scotland midfielder has been left out in the cold at Chelsea since penning the new deal.

He spent most of the pre-season without a squad number, and was only given the No35 shirt this week.

And with Mateo Kovacic, N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher ahead of him in the pecking order, it's highly unlikely that he'll be given many starts this season.

Plus Gilmour's chances will be further reduced if the Blues complete the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who was spotted boarding a flight to London a few days ago.

Gilmour was set to be given a shock start in the Blues' 2-1 loss to Southampton on Tuesday night, but ended up being an unused sub.

But the Mail claim Brighton are mulling a late move for Gilmour ahead of the transfer deadline.

It will have to be a permanent offer as they've already brought in Gilmour's Chelsea team-mate Levi Colwill on loan.

And Prem rules state clubs cannot register more than one loan from the same team.
