Chesterfield and Oldham fans clashed on the pitch after a late equaliser during Saturday’s 1-1 draw in the National League.

Visitors Oldham earned a point at Technique Stadium in the sixth minute of stoppage-time through James Norwood’s close-range finish.

This led to wild celebrations as Oldham supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate with their players and in front of the home crowd.

Unsavoury scenes followed as Chesterfield fans also then entered the field to display their anger.

Footage from the match shows fans from both sides throwing punches at each other as the horrific scenes spiraled out of control, with pyrotechnics also thrown on the pitch.

In the midst of the pitch invasion, Chesterfield goalkeeper Harry Tyrer was confronted and shoved to the ground as he protested about the goal.

Oldham released a statement to condemn the horrific incident.

The statement said: ‘Oldham Athletic condemns any encroachment on to the field of play and the use of pyrotechnics.

‘As a club, we pride ourselves on the passion of our supporters but the behaviour of everyone representing our club must remain lawful at all times.

‘We will co-operate fully with all investigations made.’

Chesterfield took the lead just after the hour mark through Ash Palmer but Norwood’s late equaliser brought an end to their perfect start to the season after winning their opening three matches of the season.

The Spireites sit third in the table and will return to action against Altrincham next weekend.

Meanwhile, Oldham, who are 15th, will travel to Hertfordshire to take on Boreham Wood.
