Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Atletico Madrid fans' banners telling Man Utd star he is 'not welcome' amid transfer links | The Sun

CRISTIANO RONALDO has reacted to Atletico Madrid fans holding up banners which read "CR7 not welcome".

The Manchester United superstar, 37, is being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

And SunSport exclusively revealed on Thursday night that his agent Jorge Mendes has a deal in place if the Red Devils give him a figure to trigger a move.

Atletico Madrid have been talked up as a potential option for Ronaldo – one of the few Champions League clubs that seemed somewhat feasible.

However, Atleti supporters lost their minds at the thought of signing the Real Madrid legend.

They released a statement opposing a deal and held up anti-Ronaldo banners during a friendly match in an attempt to quash any potential move for the Man Utd star.

But Ronaldo was not willing to let it slide without a short comment of his own, taking to Instagram to simply respond with four laughing face emojis.

Atletico fans have had a deep disdain for Ronaldo for more than a decade since he began life at rivals Real Madrid.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored 450 goals in 438 games for the Spanish giants during a remarkable nine-year spell.

And he has also netted more times against Atleti than any other team in his career – managing 25 goals in 37 matches.

They included Real's fourth goal in their 4-1 Champions League final win over Atletico in 2014.

And then two years later in the 2016 final, Ronaldo struck the decisive penalty in the shoot-out to repeat Los Blancos' stranglehold over their local rivals.

Earlier this week, Atletico fans release a statement insisting Ronaldo "goes against our values".

Ronaldo's problematic relationship with Atletico supporters means he has very few avenues to find a way out of Old Trafford this summer.

One of his last options may be to return to Sporting Lisbon on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

But United have no intention of letting him leave before the expiration of his contract next summer.
