Emma Raducanu loses British No.1 ranking

Emma Raducanu has lost her British No.1 ranking following Katie Boulter’s victory over Victoria Golubic at the Surbiton Trophy on Friday.

Boulter beat Golubic 7-5 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the grass court tournament as she looks to win a title before Wimbledon gets started in July.

Raducanu, meanwhile, will not feature at Wimbledon this year and may not return until 2024 after undergoing three surgeries on three different injuries.

The 20-year-old propelled herself into worldwide fame by winning the US Open in 2021 as a qualifier but has struggled with form and injury ever since that triumph.

Raducanu has not registered any silverware after her fairytale Grand Slam in New York and has since slipped from world No.10 all the way outside of the world 100.

Losing her British No.1 ranking is a new low for Raducanu, who recently announced that she had split with German coach Sebastian Sachs.

Raducanu last played at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in April – suffering a brutal first-round defeat to Jelena Ostapenko in just 59 minutes.

That was her third loss in a row following exits at the Miami Open and Indian Wells in March.

For now, Raducanu’s focus is on getting back to full fitness and securing a new full-time coach, although there are fears that some of the best in the sport may be put off by her high turnover.

Meanwhile, Boris Becker has warned Raducanu that her decision to have surgery on three different injuries at such a young age is ‘career-threatening’.
