England made a blistering start to the third Ashes Test, but one cricket fan wasn’t too captivated by the action at Headingley after being caught taking a nap on the roof of a house in Leeds.

Stuart Broad and Mark Wood got England off to a flyer as Ben Stokes’s side looked to keep their series hopes alive on Thursday, with the trio dismissing David Warner and Usman Khawaja respectively.

The Headingley crowd – who had treated the Aussies to a hostile reception before play – were enthralled by England’s performance with the ball, but one fan who had a unique vantage point for the game didn’t appear too enamoured.

Footage from Sky Sports showed the fan strewn on the top of a Leeds house, appearing to take a quick nap during the morning session.

England’s siege continued as Chris Woakes and Broad then claimed the wickets of dangermen Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith – the latter unable to celebrate his 100th Test match with a big innings

England sent Australia in to bat at Headingley after the tourists confirmed Mitch Marsh would play his first Test in almost four years in place of an injured Cameron Green.

England captain Stokes won the toss on a green Headingley wicket, and continued his preference for bowling first in home conditions in what is a must-win third Ashes Test for the hosts.

Marsh came in as one of three changes for Australia, with Scott Boland replacing fellow pace bowler Josh Hazlewood after selectors opted to put him on ice for the match.

Todd Murphy made his return to Test cricket as expected, with fellow spinner Nathan Lyon out for the rest of the series with a calf tear.

Green was ruled out of the match on Thursday morning with a sore hamstring, an injury medical staff believe he picked up in the 43-run second Test win at Lord’s last week as Australia took a 2-0 lead.

England also made three changes, with Moeen Ali, Woakes and Wood into the team for James Anderson, Josh Tongue and the injured Ollie Pope.
