England U21 vs Spain U21 betting tips

Could the drought be over?

England have reached the European Under-21 Championship final with a minimum of fuss, and are now favourites to clinch the trophy for the first time since 1984.

The Young Lions are yet to concede a goal in the tournament, winning all five matches by an aggregate score of 10-0 against the likes of Germany, Portugal and Israel.

But their biggest test lies ahead on the biggest occasion against an in-form Spanish side, who also boast an embarrassment of riches.

Spain are on a 15-game unbeaten streak, and have also made fairly serene progress through the competition, crushing Ukraine 5-1 in their semi-final showdown.

And the winner is…

This one is on a knife-edge.

Both sides are clearly in terrific touch and both squads are stacked with supremely talented players, all operating at the very highest level.

There's also some history to throw in the mix. England actually beat Spain 3-0 on aggregate when winning this competition in 1984, while several members of the Spanish side beat England to win the U17s Euros in 2017.

England and Spain clearly have excellent attacking options, but this final is likely to be won on defence — and the Young Lions have the upper-hand in that department.

As mentioned, England's defence haven't conceded, but Spain have conceded at least once in each of their last three games with their attacking line bailing them out of trouble on more than one occasion.

  • Our tip: England to win at 7/5 with William Hill

If it ain't broke…

I've tipped this once, and I'll tip it again. Cameron Archer to score first OR last is available at 18/5 and looks terrific value.

Archer's record for England Under-21s has been excellent. The Aston Villa forward has netted six goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances.

That record is even more impressive given the 21-year-old has only started three times and accumulated 362 minutes of competitive action, giving him a goal every 60 minutes.

Four of those goals have been either as the First Goalscorer or Last Goalscorer. It's unclear whether manager Lee Carsley will start Archer or bring him off the bench, but he's likely to make a big impact either way.

  • Cameron Archer to score first OR last at 18/5 with William Hill

Quick start…

Lee Carsley's side don't really hang about. They've scored five first-half goals in the competition, and could have made that six if it wasn't for Morgan Gibbs-White's missed penalty.

Three of those goals have been inside the opening 21 minutes with opposition seemingly caught cold by England's early attacking intent.

Spain haven't exactly been water-tight at the back, and have in fact conceded the first goal in three of their last six matches in all competitions, all in the opening 45 minutes.

  • England to score in the first half at 6/5 with William Hill
