What is an architect's salary in the UK?
According to Indeed the average base salary for an architect is £41,335.
However, the average salary can be affected by the location of the work.
The highest salary for an architect is in Stevenage which has an average salary of £54,344 per year.
That's £13,009 above the national average.

However, if you work in Manchester the average pay is £38,055 per year, £3,280 less than the average.
The UK government site states an architect's starting salary is usually £30,000 whilst an experienced architect can earn £60,000.
How can I become an architect?
Training to become an architect typically takes seven years – five years of study and two of practical work.
Key attributes needed if you wish to follow this career path include analytical thinking, design skills, knowledge of building and construction, confidence with computer and software packages.

You can become an architect through:
- university
- an apprenticeship
- working towards the role
If you choose the university route you'll need:
- To study a degree recognised by the Architects Registration Board (ARB)
- a year of practical work experience
- another two years' full time university course such as a BArch, Diploma or MArch.
- a year of practical training
- a final qualifying exam
You'll also need to build a portfolio for when you are interviewed for degree courses.
This will need to include hand drawn sketches, photographs and models.
If you choose to go for an apprenticeship, you'll usually spend 48 months doing a mix of working and studying.
RIBA Studio also offers the option for you to work full time in practice as well as a foundation course.
RIBA Studio is delivered under a unique partnership with Oxford Brookes University.
You'll undertake a Certificate of Architecture or the Diploma of Architecture.
You'll be supported by your self-chosen personal tutor through your studies.
What qualifications do I need to become a architect?

- Five GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 or A* to C or equivalent including English, maths and science.
- Two to three A-levels or equivalent.
