Both England and Australia have gone to the short ball a lot in this series.

Not so much here at Headingley, but definitely at Edgbaston and Lord’s, where the pitches were slower. Maybe trying to make something happen, and in Australia’s case the fact that England want to attack everything.

There was a great piece on Sky in the morning from Kumar Sangakkara and Mark Butcher on how the play the short ball, Well worth a watch if you can.




The covers are back on at Headingley, and it looks like play won’t resume any time soon.


A seemingly innocuous comment from the England wicketkeeper riled the former Aussie captain up, and he looked incensed as he walked off.

It’s safe to say that Ben Stokes is the glue holding England’s slim Ashes hopes together, after the captain hauled his side back into the contest at Headingley with a gutsy 80-run knock on Day Two.

Things have gotten pretty hairy for Alex Carey this week, with the Aussie wicketkeeper in the midst of a huge debate over the ‘spirit of cricket’ following his stumping of Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s.

Now, he’s supposedly involved in another controversy, with a barber in Leeds claiming he is yet to pay for a £30 haircut. Cricket Australia strongly deny the rumour that’s mired the Aussie star today.

A frustrating morning has seen the covers torn off, then swiftly put back on, as rain looms in Leeds.
