Erik ten Hag waiting to hold face-to-face talks with Cristiano Ronaldo but is refusing to approve transfer away | The Sun

ERIK TEN HAG will hold face-to-face talks with Cristiano Ronaldo over his future – but is still refusing to approve a transfer away from Manchester United.

The Portugal legend, 37, is desperately trying to force a move away from Old Trafford and is yet to report to pre-season training.

However, new United boss Ten Hag is not willing to let Ronaldo leave without a fight and is ready to host showdown talks with both the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mendes had tried to force a move to Chelsea and Bayern Munich, with both clubs rejecting proposals, while Ronaldo is believed to have turned down a staggering offer from Saudi Arabia worth £2million per week.

Romano told the Wondergoal Podcast: "Man Utd are still very clear: They insist that Cristiano is not for sale and that they really want to keep him at the club.

"Erik ten Hag is waiting to have a new meeting face-to-face with Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes, to discuss the future.

"Ten Hag's feels that the first conversation that they had once he was announced as manager was a very good one.

"Ten Hag is still waiting and hoping to keep Cristiano at the club.

"And what I'm told is that Ronaldo is very happy with Ten Hag.

"He considers Ten Hag a top manager, the perfect man to rebuild Man Utd."

However, Romano continued by saying the player still has fears over the club's talent and ambition levels.

The Italian added: "The real problem is about the ambition of the club, the signings, the rebuilding of the team.

"This is what Cristiano wanted to see but Man Utd at the moment is still in early stages.

"This why Cristiano Ronaldo asked to leave the club.

"Man Utd are trying to change his mind, waiting for Cristiano to come back, have a conversation and keep him at the club.

"But at the same time, Cristiano is still pushing, with his agent, to find a solution, to find a club, to go and try a new experience."

Romano also opened up on Ronaldo's failed move to Chelsea, adding the situation is "complicated" for Bayern Munich and admitting he is a "no" for Italian clubs.

The transfer guru said: "Mendes was pushing a lot with Chelsea.

"He was trying with new owner Todd Boehly, after two meetings, to push Cristiano, to give him an opportunity in London for the first time in his career."

"He wanted this opportunity but Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly said no to this opportunity."

"I'm sure that Mendes, knowing how he works, will push and try again till the end of the window but as of today, Tuchel wants different players for Chelsea's project.

"So it's a no on Chelsea's side."

"With Bayern, it's a bit different because internally in the board of the club, they feel that the philosophy of Bayern is different and this is why they're not going for Ronaldo.

"I'm told that someone at the club will be tempted at the opportunity with Cristiano but as of now, it's still a no because they don't want to go against the philosophy of the club."

Romano concluded: "So it is complicated with Bayern, it's complicated with Chelsea… I'm told that with Italian clubs at the moment, it's a no for Cristiano Ronaldo.

"An Arabic club made a big proposal for Cristiano Ronaldo but it's a no from Cristiano's side, as of now.
