Ex-Arsenal star Emmanuel Adebayor awarded huge payday after Fifa rule he was sacked unfairly | The Sun

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR has landed a half million pound payday – after Fifa ruled the striker's club had sacked him unfairly.

Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham star Adebayor joined Paraguayan side Olimpia in early 2020.

He made just four appearances for the Asuncion outfit before Covid-19 halted their season.

Adebayor then failed to return from home country Togo amid travel restrictions.

Olimpia tore up his one-year contract in June 2020, and the 38-year-old has not played since then.

Fifa's football tribunal has now ordered Olimpia to pay Adebayor 510,000 dollars (£420,000), plus 12 per cent interest backdated to 2020.

New Olimpia president Miguel Cardona said: "There's nothing we can do about contracts that were previously signed.

"But the club will change its policy on salaries, and impose a pay cap.

"We had a demand for payment from Adebayor.  We knew he was on 200,000 dollars a month."

Adebayor hit 62 Arsenal goals in 142 games following his 2006 arrival from Monaco.
