Fans all say same thing as Man City win Club of the Year at Ballon d'Or bash with even Madrid's Toni Kroos chipping in | The Sun

FOOTBALL fans have poked fun at Manchester City being honoured as the Club of the Year at the Ballon d'Or awards.

The English side were given the accolade following the achievements of both their men's and women's teams over the past 12 months.

Pep Guardiola's men claimed the Premier League title for a fourth time in five years.

And Gareth Taylor's women scooped the Continental Cup, while also reaching the final of the FA Cup.

However, some football supporters still chose to mock the decision as City's wait for a Champions League crown goes on.

Guardiola's side were eliminated by Real Madrid in the semi-finals of last season's edition, throwing away a two-goal aggregate lead in the final moments of the second leg.

And many people joked they couldn't believe City still claimed the Ballon d'Or award on Monday night despite the notable absence on their mantlepiece.

One person replied: "Club of the year without the Champions League…"

Another posted a picture of the City players devastated following their loss to Madrid and added: "1st place team vs 3rd place team. Lmao. Go ahead I’m waiting."

A third said: "How much did you pay for this award?"

And a fourth added: "We all know this award was really for Real Madrid."

Even Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos appeared to mock the decision to hand the accolade to City.
