Five times Bruno Fernandes proved he’s not Man Utd captain material as pundits tear into ‘Incredible Sulk’ at Liverpool | The Sun

BRUNO FERNANDES has been superb for Manchester United this season.

But pundits and fans alike tore into the playmaker for his all round display in the miserable 7-0 drubbing at Liverpool.

The 28-year-old had the honour of captaining the Red Devils at Anfield, as he has done this season with Harry Maguire benched.

However, by the end of the game United legend Gary Neville was describing him as "embarrassing", while Roy Keane brandished Fernandes' body language as "disgraceful".

As the goals continued to pile in in front of the Kop, United skipper Fernandes appeared to give up.

And former Premier League striker Chris Sutton picked out five Fernandes flashpoints from the dismal defeat that made it "one of the worst performances" ever from a Prem captain.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Sutton blasted: "Bruno Fernandes shoved the referee’s assistant. He acted as if his nose had exploded when caught in the chest by Ibrahima Konate.

"He dived to try to win a penalty from Alisson. He refused to track Stefan Bajcetic when beaten.

"He waved his arms in the air when Erik ten Hag did not substitute him.

"Bruno Fernandes, take a bow for one of the worst performances we have seen from a Premier League player, certainly from a captain."

Sutton went on to brandish Fernandes "The Incredible Sulk."

Fans on social media agreed, labelling Fernandes as embarrassing after he hit the deck clutching his face following minimal contact from Ibrahima Konate.

And Old Trafford icon Neville was left fuming after claiming Fernandes had questioned why hadn't been subbed off by Erik ten Hag.

He said on commentary: "Bruno Fernandes is stood in the centre circle with his arms raised saying 'Why isn't it me coming off?' Honestly.

"I think some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace."

Neville also hit out at Fernandes' captain credentials following the Anfield display.

He declared: "That wasn't a captain's performance from a Manchester United player and I am sure Erik ten Hag will deal with that."

While Sky colleague and former United team-mate Keane said: "Fernandes' body language today was nothing short of disgraceful.

"A really talented boy, he's your captain, but his body language, waving his arms, not running back… you wouldn't be happy with him in your dressing room."

Ten Hag made Fernandes stay out on the pitch to endure the full 90 minutes of torture, despite the midfielder perhaps wanting to see the game out from the safety of the dugout.

Fernandes did then face the media after United's worst defeat in nearly a century, saying: "It is very frustrating, disappointing, sad because it is a really bad result.

"We had setbacks in the past and we have to come back quickly again. This is what Manchester United are about. We can go down but we have to get back up."
