FANS peppered Gareth Bale with golf jibes on social media after his free-kick put Wales in the swing for the World Cup finals.
The outgoing Real Madrid attacker saw his fizzing long-range shot headed into his own net by Ukraine skipper Andriy Yarmolenko for a play-off final opener.
Some armchair observers joked there must be top-class golf courses in Qatar this winter to fire Bale up.
And many 'updated' the infamous banner he held up with the Dragons of 'Wales. Golf,. Madrid'.
one suggested: "Bale. Professional golf player. Scores goals for his country's national team in his spare time."
But the former Tottenham wideman's ability to deliver for Wales – in contrast to his decline for Real during eight years at the Bernabeu – was also highlighted.

One such comment was: "The contrast between Bale in the Wales shirt and the Madrid shirt is stark."
But perhaps this post summed up the social media mood best: "Wales. Golf. Free-kicks."
Wales were bidding to reach their first World Cup finals for 64 years.
But despite Yarmolenko's misfortune, Ukraine put the Dragons in teh bunker with some heavy pressure.
