Forgotten Chelsea flop teed up by Barcelona to become Sergio Busquets' successor in shock transfer | The Sun

BARCELONA are reportedly lining up a move to sign forgotten Chelsea flop, Oriol Romeu.

The midfielder struggled to make the grade at Stamford Bridge during his four-year spell.

Romeu, 31, joined the Blues from Barcelona as a youngster after only making one league appearance for the LaLiga side's first team.

However, he did forge a home for himself after leaving Chelsea in 2015 for Southampton.

The Spaniard became a solid Premier League player during his seven years with the Saints.

He left the club in 2022 and returned to Spain with Girona and has continued to impress as a late bloomer.

Romeu's development in the last few seasons has seen him become a target for his former side.

Deco, who now works for Barcelona as the sporting director, views Romeu as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Busquets left the Catalonian side on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract.

He has since agreed on a move to MLS side Inter Miami and reunite with former team-mate Lionel Messi.

Romeu signed a three-year deal with Girona which is set to expire in 2025.

He played an important role in the team's last campaign which saw the Spanish side finish 10th in the league.

The midfielder featured 33 times in the league and netted two goals.

Both of his efforts contributed to wins, earning the club an extra six points.
