Former Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi has been taken to hospital in Uruguay after suffering an abdominal wound, according to reports in South America.

Several publications have claimed Lavezzi, who retired from football in 2020, was taken to the Cantegrill Sanatorium hospital in Maldonado on December 20.

It is unclear how Lavezzi, 38, sustained the injury with conflicting reports emerging.

Lavezzi family sources have insisted he was wounded after slipping off a ladder while trying to change a light bulb, according to a report from TYC Sports.

However, El Observador, citing police sources, have alleged Lavezzi was stabbed by a family member during a party, with emergency services called out at 5am.

The same report claims the alleged stabbing took place over a ‘money’ matter.

Clarin, meanwhile, say local police have not confirmed a stabbing incident.

‘There is still no official report from the clinic and the severity of the 38-year-old former football player’s condition is unknown,’ the publication has stated.

Each of the reports say Lavezzi suffered a broken collarbone, with one outlet alleging this came from the former Napoli man hitting a piece of furniture during a fall.

According to FM Gente, a radio station based in Maldonado, Lavezzi was accompanied by his girlfriend after being admitted to the local hospital.

A police report said: ‘On December 20 at 05:00 police arrived at Arenas de Jose Ignacio, Secc Jurisdiction where they requested support from emergency services.
