Fulham's Nathaniel Chalobah shown straight red card for horror tackle on Newcastle star Sean Longstaff after VAR review | The Sun

NATHANIEL CHALOBAH has been sent off just EIGHT minutes into Fulham's clash with Newcastle at Craven Cottage.

The former Chelsea midfielder was handed his first Prem start of the season by boss Marco Silva.

But it swiftly took a disastrous turn.

With less than eight minutes on the clock, Chalobah launched himself into a challenge on Sean Longstaff.

The 27-year-old caught the Toon star high on the shin, but was only initially shown a yellow card.

Following a VAR check, however, the colour of the card was upgraded to a red.

And Callum Wilson made the ten-man Cottagers pay less than five minutes later, when he scrambled the ball home from close range.

Prior to today's match, Chalobah had played just three minutes of Prem action this term.

His only start of the campaign came in Fulham's dreadful 2-0 League Cup defeat to League Two Crawley.

He made 20 Championship outings last season after joining Silva and Co from Watford.

Earlier in the afternoon Tottenham flop Emerson Royal was flashed a straight red for clumsily treading on Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli.

Having already been a goal down at the time, Spurs went on to lose 3-1 to their bitter rivals.
