Gary Anderson laughs off nine-dart blunder to win first PDC title in three years

Gary Anderson managed a chuckle after messing up a potential nine-dart finish before clinching his first PDC title in more than three years at Players Championship 8 against Krzysztof Ratajski.

The Flying Scotsman's recent form had seen him drop out of the top 20 players in the world having reached the World Championship final back in 2021, but has now found his darts.

The 52-year-old posted four ton-plus averages on his way to winning the title in Hildesheim on Monday (March 20) having had a fleeting chance to find a nine-dart finish to clinch it.

It was in the final leg of the encounter that Anderson opened up with back-to-back 180s, but his seventh dart found a home in the single one much to his amusement.

Having finished as runner-up in Players Championship 5 to Ross Smith, Anderson has also secured his spot on the European Tour after a seven year absence.

Anderson pockets a total of £12,000 this week after winning 8-5 in the Monday's final. He beat Gerwyn Price by seven legs to three in the semis.

After wrapping up victory, Anderson spoke to Dan Dawson on PDC TV – and wasted no time hitting out at commentator and former PC finals winner Paul Nicholson.

Anderson said: "I read a wee tweet from Nicholson saying I'm one of the world's worst losers.

"I'm gonna have a wee chat with him when I get him on the corner.

"There's losing and then there's being done over. So which one is being the bad loser. So I've had that in my head today and I'm gunning for him."

Anderson picked up world championship glory in both 2015 and 2016, losing in two finals since to first Michael van Gerwen and most recently the aforementioned Price.

Having again knuckled down and found his form, Anderson will be looking to add to his career earnings of more than £4million.
