Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have reflected on the infamous porn-gate scandal that left the BBC hosts red-faced during last season’s FA Cup coverage in January.

At the start of the year, during coverage for Liverpool’s replay at Wolves on BBC1, embarrassing moaning noises began playing, leaving the pundits visibly confused and viewers incredulous.

Lineker and Shearer appeared to be tickled by the chorus of sex sounds before the BBC quickly cut away for a pre-match interview with Jurgen Klopp.

Reflecting on the incident months later, Lineker and Shearer admitted to finding the incident hilarious before revealing fears it had played on one of their own phones.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Lineker said: ‘I was interviewing Alan when it was actually going on.

‘Yeah, I was on the co-comms,’ said Shearer, ‘so I was inside the stadium. I could hear it, and there was a part of me thinking it was my phone!’

Lineker interjects to say: ‘It’s the porn he was listening to the night before!’ to which Shearer can’t help but laugh.

Shearer then claimed: ‘I’d been tricked by people sending me that video so many times and I’m thinking, ‘Has it gone off on my phone, in my pocket?’.

‘I tried to be professional and ignore it; I only started laughing when you [Lineker] started laughing!’

Moments after the game in January got underway, Lineker tweeted to confirm that he had discovered where the noise was coming from.

‘Well, we found this taped to the back of the set,’ Lineker wrote alongside a picture of a mobile phone. As sabotage goes it was quite amusing.’

During the half-time analysis, Lineker said to Ince and Murphy: ‘Harvey Elliott’s goal was a screamer … which was not the only one we’ve had tonight.’

The topic was quickly trending on Twitter, where YouTuber Jarvo69 claimed to be behind the sex phone prank that left the pundits red-faced.

Shearer has jokingly admitted that he feared the noises were coming from his mobile phone

YouTuber prankster Jarvo69 took claim for the prank and posted about it on his channel

Daniel Jarvis, who is a serial pitch invader, tweeted: ‘Yes, it was me that pranked the BBC Match of the Day with the sex Phone 🙂 The video coming soon!!!! @BMWJARVO best prankster ever!!!!’

A short video accompanied the tweet which showed him behind the scenes at the Molineux stadium and at the door of the BBC’s studio.

A livestream on his YouTube channel shows the prankster watching Match of the Day at home while repeatedly making calls to the phone taped to the back of one of the seats.

The BBC apologised after sexual noises interrupted live television coverage of the FA Cup. ‘We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening,’ the BBC said.
