Gerwyn Price believes he can become unbeatable but darts fans arent so sure

World number one Gerwyn Price has boldly claimed he could become unbeatable in the next few years.

The Iceman continued his strong second half of the year by winning the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam on Sunday and is looking forward to the upcoming run of majors with great confidence. It is a far cry from the first half of the year when he struggled with injury and form, and complained about the PDC’s intense schedule.

But the former rugby player has put those issues behind him in recent months and appears to be something close to his brilliant best. Price insists there is plenty more to come from him and insists he has more room for growth compared to the likes of Michael van Gerwen and great friend Jonny Clayton.

“I think I've had a decent year considering that I haven't been at my best'', he told Online Darts. “There's a lot of big tournaments coming up towards the end of the year. Like I said I've been rubbish most of this year, but I've still been doing all right.

He added: “I reckon in three years’ time I'll pretty much be unbeatable. Everybody else is all experienced. Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton [have] done a lot of BDO.

“I'm really new to this compared to all those. So another three years where I can improve a lot more, I'll be very tough to beat.”

However, many fans don’t agree with Price and reckon any kind of domination by one player would not necessarily be good for the sport.

What do you think about Price's prediction? Have your say in the comments section below.

One fan posted on social media: “As a Price Fan, I must say: No. nobody will be unbeatable. Not a Phil Taylor in his best was unbeatable, not MVG. It’s okay to have a target but you can never reach that.”

Another added: “I think there is far too many top quality players about these days for anyone to dominate. I think that has been shown already by the amount of different winners, whereas a few years back it was the MVG show.”

A third commented: “We all thought Van Gerwen was unbeatable and when you get to Phil Taylor’s record then you can talk like that. But on the other hand there’s nothing wrong with positivity.”

A fourth said: “Suppose you have to blow your own trumpet. I’m a Price fan but sometimes he’s his own worst enemy.”
