GARY NEVILLE reckons Paul Scholes has "snapped" after his former team-mate again savaged Manchester United's midfielders.

The Red Devils fell to an embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to Brighton in their Prem opener yesterday.


Scholes, 47, called Scott McTominay and Fred's performances in the middle "criminal" immediately after the game.

And he was still fuming the following morning.

He wrote on his Instagram story: "Thoughts for the week.

"MDF's (midfielders) it's all about body shape when receiving the ball, too many times facing their own goal and can only play one way…

United fans online backed their former star, with one writing: "Why not give Scholes the chance to coach our midfield."

Another wrote: "I think Scholes needs to be given a role at United to coach our midfielders. McTominay needs to learn a lot."

A third blasted: "I guarantee Paul Scholes at 47 is still 2000 times the player McTominay is."

Yesterday, Scholes said: "Fred constantly giving the ball away.

"McTominay running with the ball in attack when he’s got Sancho, Rashford ahead of him.

The two in the middle of the park, all over the place

"Should pass the ball to Eriksen. It’s criminal."

Roy Keane also laid into them, adding: "We shouldn’t be that surprised. We’ve spoken about the changes in the team and the personality of the new manager and of course he will need time.
