Golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas buy stake in Leeds but third top star pulled out after club got relegated | The Sun

GOLF star Jordan Spieth confirmed he has bought a minority stake in Leeds.

Fellow golfer Rickie Fowler pulled out following relegation but Justin Thomas will join the three-time major winner in investing as part of 49ers Enterprises.

The American group, who own NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers, are still waiting for the EFL to confirm their takeover from Andrea Radrizzani.

Spieth, 29, flew from London to the Renaissance Club in North Berwick ahead of today's Scottish Open before next week’s British Open at Royal Liverpool.

And he said: “It was cloudy on the flight up – we were hoping we’d see the stadium but we couldn’t.

“I was thinking we’re not too far away next week. I don’t know if it’ll work on this trip but I hope to get there.

“We thought it would be a cool opportunity. It’s a big city and a historic club with a great venue in Elland Road, and once we looked into it we realised it could be really exciting.

“The 49ers renegotiated after relegation and it was possibly a better deal – as long as they can get promoted soon.

“I’m excited to have a team I’m emotionally invested in. I’ve watched the Premier League intently for years – hopefully we’ll be back there very soon.

“The 49ers beat my (Dallas) Cowboys every year, so if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!”
