Horse racing tips: 14-1 shot can give this legendary jockey his first Ascot winner | The Sun

THE KING George takes centre stage at Ascot on Saturday – but better value can be found in the race before.

The final decs will be out at 10am on Thursday morning for the Class 2 Moet & Chandon International Stakes run over 7f.

With £77,00 going to the winner it has unsurprisingly attracted a strong field.

At the time of writing recent Royal Ascot winner over a mile Dark Shift heads the market at a general 6-1.

While recent Bunbury Cup third Jumby and George Boughey's impressive Yarmouth Moulton Nurseries Handicap winner Air To Air come next at around 6-1 or 8-1 respectively.

That's not to discount the chances of Buckingham Palace Stakes winner and runner-up Inver Park and Ropey Guest.

But I'm looking elsewhere for a bit of value and at 14-1 I think I have found one.

If you go back to that Buckingham Palace race just over a month ago, Chiefofchiefs caught the eye massively.

The nine-year-old had a stinking draw way out in 25 and finished the race having gone right across the width of the track to the far side.

That's where Inver Park (stall two), Ropey Guest (stall six) and fifth-place Montassib (stall one) all finished.

The only anomaly was former Cazoo Derby Festival winner Rhoscolyn, who ran a stormer from stall 18 to finish fourth, but still in that front cluster of five to finish nearer the far side.

Three horses drawn 20 or higher finished in the top ten, with Chiefofchiefs the best of all.

The selection had a much better draw when finishing down the field in the tote Victoria Cup in May.

But a nightmare passage which saw jockey Hayley Turner not even bother to ride him out fully saw him finish way down the field.

Held up as normal, Chiefofchiefs was last off the bridle with a furlong to go.

Checked twice, Turner had no option but to give up a late charge with simply no way through.

On his only other run this season Chiefofchiefs showed he still has a decent turn of foot when a close third in a 6f race at Kempton in April.

For two really good showings and one unlucky run, Chiefofchiefs has been dropped 2lbs.

If he is declared he will be one of the lightest in the race – and should benefit from being jocked up with Colin Keane.

Yes, a lot has been made about Ireland's best Flat jockey's dismal 0-46 record at the track.

But it will be a huge day for him as he keeps the ride on hot King George favourite Westover.

Quite frankly I can't see how you can be put off by Keane being in the saddle and I think at 14-1 Chiefofchiefs looks good value.
