Horse racing tips: Templegate NAPS 'awesome' runner to smash rivals to bits at Ascot on Friday | The Sun

TEMPLEGATE takes on Friday's racing confident of banging in a few winners.

Read on for his tips and back a horse by clicking their odds below.

MOSTLY CLOUDY (3.05 Ascot, nap)

He has been in awesome form this season and made it four wins on the trot at Doncaster last time out.

That came after easy victories at Redcar, Sandown and Nottingham where he was full of staying power.

This is just about his toughest assignment so far but he’s getting weight from his older rivals and looks capable of taking another big step forward under Tom Marquand.

CARNIVAL ZAIN (4.15 Ascot, nb)

He did well earlier this season with victories at Thirsk and Catterick before going close a couple of times at Pontefract.

He ran just about his best race of the season to date when coming home with a sweeping run to score comfortably at Chester 14 days ago.

That was under today’s rider and he looks a good bet to take this valuable contest from a fair 4lb higher.

BLUE FOR YOU (5.55 York, treble)

He was unlucky to finish only second on the Knavesmire in good company last time when not getting the run of the race.

He is best over this distance and Danny Tudhope can steer him home in front.

Templegate's race of the day

3.40 ASCOT

THE WHIPMASTER looks a cracker.

Gary Moore’s hope made it four wins on the spin in great style at Windsor last time. He’s proven in this grade and the trip will suit.

Juan De Montalban was an impressive winner the last time he tackled this course and distance and looks the main threat, ahead of 2020 winner Jeremiah.

JUAN DE MONTALBAN 4

JUAN for the money. He’s on the third trainer of his short career and clocked a huge personal best for Kevin Phillipart De Foy when winning by almost four lengths over course and distance in May. It was a surprise to see him upped to 1m6f at Royal Ascot where he travelled well for a long way until his stamina gave out. Dropping back to this ideal trip looks a wise move and he’s a major player despite being 9lb higher than his victory here.

PROTECTED GUEST 2

PRO am. He was down the field in the race Juan De Montelban won here and looked a complete non-stayer when upped to a punishing 2m4f for the Ascot Stakes here last time out. He is a tricky ride who can throw his head around but he was good enough to score at Nottingham in April and this smaller field should help. He needs to raise his game though.

JEREMIAH 3

JER we go. His last win came when taking this very race two years ago and he’s had some training issues since then. He came back from 12 months off to shape well enough over an inadequate 1m2f at Sandown last time and will be happier back over this distance. He’s back to the same mark as when winning this and Alan King will have him nicely tuned up. He can outrun his long odds but may just come up short.

COMMONSENSICAL 3

MAKES sense. He’s proving consistent and went close again over this distance at Newmarket last time out. He has capable claimer Harry Davies taking over today which shaves a handy 5lb off. He saw out this trip well at HQ but all his wins have come in more modest company than this so he needs to improve, although he looks capable of better.

THE WHIPMASTER 5

WHIP hand. Made it four wins on the spin when winning with plenty in hand at Windsor last time. That was over slightly shorter than this but he should have no issue getting home. That victory came in this class of race and there was plenty left in the tank. The handicapper has shunted him up another 6lb but he’s clearly progressing and looks the one to beat for Gary and Ryan Moore.

MERLIN’S BEARD 2

BEARD shaved. He won a minor contest over this trip at Lingfield in May and went close in soft ground on his turf comeback at Newbury later that month. He’s had just one run since when going well over 2m at Chester but he needs a bit more in this company.
