I played for Man Utd under Fergie but I'm planning new career as a financial advisor – I study with my wife at night | The Sun

NICK POWELL is already planning for life after football and has started studying for exams with his wife.

The former Manchester United prospect was once one of the most promising players in the country after he joined the club from Crewe Alexandra in 2012.

Powell, 29, had emerged as one of the brightest talents in England's lower leagues by scoring 14 goals in 55 league appearances for the Railwaymen.

This form saw him snapped up by United for £6million when he was just 18.

Despite scoring on his debut against Wigan, he suffered various injuries and was never able to hold down a starting spot at the club.

Powell then headed for loan spells at Wigan, Leicester City and Hull before eventually being released in 2016.

He then joined Wigan permanently for three years and then moved to Stoke City in 2019

He has recently moved on from the Potters and joined Stockport County in League Two.

While he is not considering retiring from the game just yet, the midfielder is already planning for life after football.

Powell has revealed that he has matured and instead of eating Dominos every night and playing Call Of Duty until 2am he is now juggling his footballing career with studying.

Despite once being hailed as an "exceptional talent" by Ferguson, Powell has insisted that he does not count his time at Old Trafford as part of his career.

Powell admitted that during his time at Man United he was earning a "lot of money" and was not thinking long-term.

However, after investing in property and then speaking to his at the time girlfriend's mum he came up with a financial plan and started to set targets.

He now wants to use his experiences to help those that need help.

Powell added: "Through the business, our plan is to go into football clubs and talk to their 18-21-year-olds, so we can prepare them from an educational side.

"From a young age, you see this typical lifestyle and automatically think what a life that is. But what about the future?
