Inside Beckham's Brazilian Real Madrid 'clique' with England icon 'laughing for hours despite not knowing language' | The Sun

DAVID BECKHAM was part of a Brazilian "clique" during his time at Real Madrid.

The England icon would laugh for hours with the club's Samba stars despite "not knowing the language".

After joining Real Madrid in 2003, Beckham struggled to settle in his new surroundings and has admitted to feeling lonely.

However, he soon made friends with Brazilian trio Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Robinho.

Spanish full-back Michel Salgado was also part of the group, helping Beckham a lot despite not being Brazilian.

The former midfielder's new Netflix documentary has revealed Beckham would spend hours laughing with Carlos despite not being able to understand him.

"David was hurting," explains Salgado in the documentary. "So we got a group of friends to surround David, to make him feel better."

Meanwhile, then manager Carlos Queiroz recalled: "But I still remember one day, I see David and Roberto Carlos eating in the same table.

"I thought, ‘How can one guy that doesn’t speak English and another one that doesn’t speak Portuguese or Spanish, being two hours together, laughing?’"

However, the language barrier was never an issue, with Carlos adding: "He knew exactly what I was saying to him and vice versa."

Robinho previously revealed that Beckham even made his Spanish-speaking team-mates jealous by being a part of the club's Brazilian clique.

''When Madrid came," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport in 2020. "I saw that they had a large Brazilian presence in the team and they had Vanderlei Luxemburgo as their coach at the time.

''So, why go to Barcelona? There was a great harmony among the Brazilians in the squad. Beckham was always with the Brazilians. He was part of our group.

''The Spaniards were jealous because he spoke more Portuguese than Spanish, so he ended up spending more time with us.''
