It has been a sad week for Britain and the rest of the world as we deal with the loss of our Queen, a constant rock in what sometimes seems like wave after wave of turbulent times.
I cannot put into words how much I admired her and the way she devoted her life to the role. Rest in peace Your Majesty – you certainly deserve to.
At the PDC we have been graced with the presence of some of the Royal Family as they have enjoyed the darts at our palace (the Alexandra one) and our thoughts are with them as they grieve while carrying out their very public duties.
In far more trivial matters, they say practice makes perfect, and while I’m not expecting darting perfection (well maybe not in every leg!), I am hoping the work I am putting in at home will start to yield real dividends in competition.
I have been like a kid at Christmas this week because I took delivery of one of my sponsor Unicorn’s new electric boards which has kept me entertained and help me enjoy my sessions. It is brilliant. Most dart players are pretty good counters anyway (with exception of a couple – no names mentioned but I’m sure Wayne Mardle will highlight them when you are watching TV!).
However, the board really allows you to get into the flow of throwing without thinking too much about the score, as you would in a match, and is also great for when you are practising with someone else as you can keep up the pace of play.

I said last week that I was going to be combining practising with getting my hand back in on the mechanical side of things, and that has happened a bit sooner than expected after an SOS from my cousin, whose motorbike blew up!
I love helping people out with these kinds of things and it is great when I have a bit of time, so I have started totally rebuilding the engine for him and will hopefully get it all sorted.
If you are starting to feel sorry for me that all I have done all week is my two jobs (darts and being a mechanic) then don’t fret – I have managed to squeeze in a little bit of fishing (I’m sure no one was feeling sorry for me anyway!). Actually, if you were going to sympathise with anything it should be my fishing prowess, especially when I tell you what happened.
A mate and I when on a 48-hour angling trip and in the entire two days I managed to catch a grand total of zero fish. If that wasn’t bad enough, the one good bite I did have was accidentally knocked off my line by my mate, Meanwhile, over the course of the expedition, the bloke on the peg next to me caught 18 fish!

Oh, how I didn’t laugh. When he went to the toilet, I was thinking of taking a couple out of his keep net but it is carp fishing so you’re not allowed them. Anyway, it would have felt like a hollow victory.
I think I am going to stick to engines and dart boards, and that will start this week at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. I am heading there shortly, with the event starting on Friday, and see it as a great opportunity to add to my TV majors.
The event is live on ITV4 and hopefully, you will tune in. As ever, I appreciate the support as ever.
