Jurgen Klopp's comments about Man Utd come back to bite him after British record Moises Caicedo transfer | The Sun

LIVERPOOL are on the verge of completing a British transfer record – but it will see Jurgen Klopp go against his own word.

The Reds last night agreed a fee of £110MILLION to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

It would make him the most expensive player in Premier League history, topping the £107m Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez.

But it was only six years ago Liverpool boss Klopp claimed he would never spend over £100m on a player.

At the time, Manchester United were looking to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus.

And Klopp said: "If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney.

Harry Kane’s Bayern wages revealed as Tottenham accept stunning £104m bid

"The day that this is football, I'm not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.

"That is how everybody in football understands it. You always want to have the best, but building the group is necessary to be successful.

"Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.

"I don't know exactly how much money we could spend because nobody has told me, 'No, you can't do this'.

Liverpool look to have beat Chelsea to the signing of Caicedo, who was subject to three bids from the Blues.

But according to The Athletic, Brighton held an auction with a midnight cut-off on Thursday.

Liverpool are said to have outbid Chelsea by £10m with personal terms and medical tests to now follow.
