‘Like kids football’ – Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool set pieces against Arsenal as he calls Klopp tactics ‘criminal’ | The Sun

JAMIE CARRAGHER has launched an astonishing attack on Liverpool’s “criminal” tactics against Arsenal.

And the Anfield icon reckons Jurgen Klopp must first focus on set pieces, claiming the Reds are currently playing “like kids football.”

Liverpool suffered a devastating blow on Sunday as they were trumped 3-2 by Arsenal at the Emirates.

Klopp’s tactical switch to a 4-2-3-1 backfired as his defence was torn apart by Mikel Arteta’s attack.

And Liverpool are already 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal with just eight games played.

Klopp admits his side are out of the title race despite it only being early October.

Things could get even worse this weekend when the Reds take on free-scoring champs Man City and Erling Haaland.

And Carragher reckons his former side have no chance unless they have a major rethink over tactics, especially at set pieces.

The ex-England centre-back admits he was left shocked by Liverpool’s defensive display.

And speaking on Monday Night Football, he highlighted Arsenal’s second goal – scored by Bukayo Saka on the stroke of half-time – as an example of Liverpool’s shoddy standards at the back.

HOW TO GET FREE BETS ON FOOTBALL

Carragher blasted: “I can’t believe what I am seeing here. They have a free-kick in an area you can’t put a great ball in the box.

“Liverpool’s centre-half’s go up with two minutes to half-time.

“In terms of game management that was criminal, like kids football.

“A team in that position just play football as you don’t want to do this.

“But that is why no one plays 4-4-2, teams play so many systems and you get players in positions where they aren’t sure who should be picking who up.

“The thing Liverpool did stupidly is put too many players forward for a free-kick.”

But Carragher only had words of praise for high-flying Arsenal, adding: “I love the energy in the stadium right now, and that isn’t something I have seen in this job looking at Arsenal.

“You can just feel something. I think Arteta is fantastic in terms of how he gets his team playing, but tactically he is really good.”
