Man City ‘give up on Marc Cucurella despite Brighton transfer request to explore new options like Raphael Guerreiro’ | The Sun

MANCHESTER CITY have given up in their pursuit to sign Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, according to reports.

The Sky Blues are in need of a new full-back following the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko last week.

Pep Guardiola identified Cucurella, 24, as a top transfer target when the window opened last month, but Brighton are demanding at least £50million for his services.

While City have attempted to negotiate a deal, The Seagulls are standing firm in their stance and have made it clear that they will not accept anything less than the asking price.

This even led to Cucurella handing in a transfer request in a bid to force a deal through.

However, according to The Athletic, Man City are no longer interested in signing him.

Instead, they are now expected to explore alternative options.

Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro is claimed to be on the club's radar.

City have monitored the 28-year-old's progress in the past, but, the club could have to pay over the odds to bring him to the Etihad Stadium before the Premier League season starts.

When asked if the club will sign a new left-back this week, Guardiola said: "If it is possible, yes.

"If not, we stay with what we have. We have enough players who can play there.

"Joao (Cancelo) can play there, Josh (Wilson-Esbrand), Nathan (Ake) can play there."

Nathan Ake was on the verge of a return to Chelsea earlier this month, but The Blues failed to match City's £50m asking price.

The Dutchman could now be expected to fill the void left by Zinchenko if Man City cannot find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes.
