Man City 'reach transfer agreement over £30m-plus move for Marc Cucurella' with Brighton full-back replacing Zinchenko | The Sun

MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly agreed personal terms to sign Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella in a deal worth more than £30million.

The Premier League champions are keen to bring in a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko after he joined Arsenal earlier this month.

And Cucurella, 24, was identified as a priority target for Pep Guardiola.

Man City's first offer of £30m was swiftly rejected by Brighton, with the Seagulls valuing him at £50m.

But an agreement between Cucurella and City is now said to have been reached, with the Spaniard desperately wanting the move.

What remains is the small matter of the transfer fee – which Brighton are yet to be satisfied with.

Speaking on The Here We Go podcast, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: "I am told that the player is not happy. The player really wants this move to Manchester City.

"He joined Brighton dreaming of a top English club one day and when Pep Guardiola called him, he only wanted this move to Manchester City."

Cucurella starred for Brighton last season as the club finished ninth in the table – their best ever Premier League finish.

And Brighton's attitude towards selling players would indicate they will inevitably let the full-back depart.

Brighton technical director David Weir recently stated: “It’s an important part of recruitment that players know they can leave the club to go on to bigger teams than Brighton.

"I think what we do is most important and if at some stage it is right for the club and the individual wants to leave, then I think that will have to be a part of the process as well."

Man City have already made four signings this summer – Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Stefan Ortega and Kalvin Phillips.

Guardiola's men face Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday ahead of their first game of the Premier League season away at West Ham on Sunday, August 7.
