Thomas Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann as Bayern manager last month, but it has been far from an easy start for the German.

His side moved top of the Bundesliga by beating Borussia Dortmund in his first game, but have since been knocked out of the German Cup by Freiburg, and now they face one of the toughest tasks in European football by taking on City.

Perhaps a slight surprise that Muller has only made the bench tonight.

Tuchel has named a front four of Coman, Musiala, Sane and Gnabry so will have plenty of pace and skill in the final third of the pitch to test City’s backline.

It’s a strong-looking line-up for the visitors, with Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich and Matthijs de Ligt all starting.

Leroy Sane will also play against his former side, but Joao Cancelo must settle for a place on the bench, and Sadio Mane is also named among the substitutes.

No major surprises from Pep Guardiola who names the same defence and midfield that beat Southampton 4-1 on Saturday.

Bernardo Silva gets the nod over Riyad Mahrez, and Erling Haaland will lead the line for City.

Of course, we will only be halfway through the tie after tonight’s match.

It’s a quick turnaround, though, with the reverse fixture set to be played next week on Wednesday April 19.

The weather is not looking particularly promising at the Etihad tonight with rain and high winds expected during the match.

Let’s hope it doesn’t affect what promises to be a classic encounter between two of Europe’s best teams.
