Man Utd ‘still in the hunt for David Raya’ with Tottenham leading the way but unwilling to pay £40m for Brentford star | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED are interested in beating Tottenham to David Raya's signature, according to reports.

The highly-rated Spaniard has one year remaining on his Brentford contract and is expected to leave the Bees this summer.

SunSport revealed yesterday that Spurs are pushing hard to sign Raya and are locked in negotiations with Brentford.

The West Londoners are demanding £40million for their No1, but Tottenham want to negotiate that fee down.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed this morning that Raya has agreed personal terms with Spurs and is waiting for a deal to be reached between the clubs.

Should Tottenham dawdle, however, Man United could hijack the transfer.

According to the Telegraph, the Red Devils retain a long-term interest in Raya.

United boss Erik ten Hag wants a goalkeeper more adept at playing out from the back with Raya, 27, fitting the bill.

The Red Devils have tabled a contract extension offer for David de Gea, with the Old Trafford stalwart expected to sign before the end of the month.

But there have been no assurances that the 32-year-old will remain first choice.

United are currently focusing on recruiting a striker and midfielder ahead of next term.

But should Spurs have failed to sew up a deal for Raya by later in the window, the Red Devils could swoop.

Raya joined Brentford from Blackburn for a bargain £3m in 2019.

He has since made 161 appearances for the Bees, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League along the way.

Brentford signed Mark Flekken from Freiburg for £11m last month, with the Dutchman seemingly primed to come in as Raya's replacement.

Hugo Lloris, meanwhile, is expected to leave Tottenham after 11 years this summer.

The Frenchman, 36, has one year remaining on his contract, but has admitted he would like a new challenge following an error-strewn season.
