United fans confused by van der Sar response

Manchester United fans have been left confused by Edwin van der Sar's comment to Altay Bayandir.

Bayandir named van der Sar as his favourite keeper on a video put on the club's Instagram.

But van der Sar wrote on the club's Instagram: "Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goallkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!"

Marcus Rashford needs to go back to basics – Andy Cole

Manchester United legend Andy Cole has encouraged Marcus Rashford to go back to basics to rediscover his form.

He told BetFred: "His form was phenomenal last season, but if you look at his form from two years before that, it was similar to what it’s like now. The freaks such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo never took a season off.

"Around twenty years at the highest level and they never took a season off. That’s what you’ve got to be like to play at that elite level.

“Only Marcus knows what’s going on in his head at the moment. His form over the last four or five years has been inconsistent and I don’t know what he can or can’t do to get himself back on track.

"He starts week in, week out and that’s something that every player wants. If I had one goal to my name in sixteen appearances, then I’d go right back to basics on how I train, how I finish or whatever it may be. I’d do whatever it took to get me back into form."

    Bayern want Raphael Varane

Bayern journalist Florian Plettenburg has claimed that Bayern Munich are interested in moving for Raphael Varane.

He says that internal discussions have taken place at Bayern over a move for the Frenchman.

He says a move right now is currently seen as "unrealistic" but the centre-back is being closely monitored over a potential move.

'United at risk of losing giant status'

Sports finance expert Dr Christina Philippou has said that Manchester United are at risk of losing their "giant status" if their poor form continues.

She told Saxo: "Manchester United have been a commercial giant for a long time and that's why they have such a global brand. A global brand sells, but so do trophies!

"The long-term question will be whether or not sponsors and broadcasters will want to show their games if they continue to slip down the table.

"We've seen powerhouses in the past now languish in the lower tiers of English football. Man United's declining success will be okay in the medium term, but they may run into problems in the long haul."

    Townsend praises Man Utd

Luton ace Andros Townsend has praised Manchester United following his side's 1-0 defeat to them before the international break.

They are difficult. We were able to defend against them well but similar to Liverpool they just find a way.

Bruno Fernandes drifts out to the outside left position, links up with [Sergio] Reguilon, they get a few crosses that way.

[Diogo] Dalot comes into the midfield creating an overload and we did limit them to very few chances and defended well.

Unfortunately, we switched off at one set piece and that was our whole game plan done.

At the top level you need to stay switched on for 95 to 96 minutes because these top teams can punish you.

    Theatre of nightmares

Manchester United fans were left shocked after a small part of the Old Trafford ceiling appeared to crumble and fall on them.

That was during Sunday's derby that saw United suffering a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Women's Super League.

Katie Zelem broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 21st minute before Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp turned the game on its head within seconds.

Khadija Shaw then capitalised on a lapse of concentration within the Red Devils' defence to seal all three points for City.

It was a disappointing day for United fans, but for some it was made worse when a piece of the Old Trafford ceiling reportedly fell on them.

One person took to Twitter to share three photographs of the damage.

    Harry Maguire criticism

England fans were hilariously comparing Manchester United ace Harry Maguire to Boris Johnson after he somehow escaped punishment for “a rugby tackle”.

The bizarre moment occurred during the 25th minute of the Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia.

With the score goalless, the hosts were screaming for a penalty after Elif Elmas went to ground following a clumsy challenge from Maguire.

The centre-back instantly wagged a finger at the referee to claim Elmas had made a meal of it and the official agreed with him.

The 30-year-old's studs appeared to have been caught in the turf, causing him to stumble, and it instantly led to fans comparing him to Johnson.

The ex-Prime Minister, while famously taking part in a charity game back in 2006 at the Madejski Stadium, committed what many claimed was the “worst tackle ever”.

While appearing for England Legends against their German counterparts, Boris stumbled over while closing down ex-Manchester City loanee Maurizio Gaudino and ended up headbutting him in the genitals.

    He's a keeper

Manchester United fans heaped praise on Altay Bayindir after he made a cheeky comment during an interview.

Bayindir was asked whether or not United are the most popular English team in Turkey.

Yeah of course. Manchester United are number one, and second one…

We don’t have a second one I think, just Manchester United.

    Marcus Rashford injury boost

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford came on as a late substitute during England's 1-1 draw against North Macedonia in the national team's final Euro 2024 qualifier.

Rashford was taken off on Friday during the 2-0 win over Malta after a collision with Trent Alexander-Arnold sparked fears over his fitness.

However, the forward came on six minutes from time at the Tose Proeski Arena.

And the 26-year-old even seemed to be moving well without any issues.

    Ferdinand warns Lescott

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has warned Joleon Lescott over a potential Manchester City points deduction.

SunSport revealed how the City and Chelsea were fearing Premier League RELEGATION after Everton’s record 10-point deduction.

Legal experts warned the Cityzens, who were slapped with 115 FFP charges, and Chelsea — under investigation over transfers during Roman Abramovich’s reign — could be booted out of the top-flight.

If anything happens with City and they get punished, Joleon, I want YOUR medal!

Hand-delivered to my house and I’m wearing that medal. I’ll take that off Joleon.

That Aguero moment has gone, right. So Joleon, just make sure you bring the medal yeah.

    Raphael Varane targeted

Manchester United ace Raphael Varane could become a shock target for Bayern Munich.

Bayern are monitoring Varane after his plunge down the pecking order at United.

According to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenburg, the German champions have discussed the 30-year-old and will keep him "under observation in the next weeks".

But the centre-back's wages are regarded as a major obstacle as he is on around £340,000 per week.

Plettenburg believes the France international is valued at around £17.5m-£26m and a "a loan is not an option at this stage".

    Joao Neves release clause

Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves has a huge release clause in his contract, which could prevent Manchester United from signing him.

United have held an interest in Neves for several months and they have been monitoring him closely since the start of the season by sending scouts to watch him in action.

Reports in Portugal claim that the Red Devils are now "fully convinced" about the midfielder's ability.

However, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed Benfica are not willing to sell the 19-year-old.

The Portuguese giants have no intention to even discuss the possibility of a transfer.

That means the only way the Manchester giants will be able to sign the Portugal international in January is by triggering his release clause – which is currently £105million.
