Man Utd transfer boost as PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is knocked out of Champions League by Rangers | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED'S chances of signing Cody Gakpo have increased after PSV failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The Dutch side managed by ex-United star Ruud van Nistelrooy were dumped out of the competition after losing 1-0 at home to Rangers following last week's 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

PSV had hoped Champions League football would convince Gakpo to stay but they could now be forced to cash in on the promising youngster.

United have tracked Gakpo for much of the summer but have been unwilling to match PSV's asking price of £42million.

The Red Devils value the forward at around £34m and the club are now expected to advance negotiations following PSV's Champions League exit, report De Telegraaf.

And if United submit an offer around £42m, PSV understand Gakpo's "departure cannot be prevented."

Antony £80m bid, De Jong FINAL offer as United chiefs fly to Barcelona

The 23-year-old is believed to have agreed personal terms with United, as has Ajax star Antony.

The Brazil international, 22, has agreed a five-year contract but the two clubs are yet to agree a fee.

United had a £67.5m bid rejected for the attacker last week with Ajax insisting Antony is not for sale.

But United are confident they can get a deal over the line with a down-payment of £74m, plus a further £10m in potential add-ons.

Erik ten Hag has made Antony one of his transfer priorities and appears to finally be closing in on the star.

The Dutchman also wants Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who could rival David de Gea for a place in the side.

Memphis Depay has also been considered in what would be a shock return to Old Trafford, but he is unlikely to arrive if Gakpo and Antony sign.
