Man Utd 'very close' to signing Nunez, Pau Torres BREAKS silence | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED have moved a step closer to signing Frenkie de Jong with Barcelona having reportedly accepting the player will leave.

The Spanish press say keeping the Dutchman is "no longer a priority", with Bernardo Silva said to be targeted as a replacement.

The same report adds that Barca would also let Frenkie de Jong leave without a replacement, so long as it means they can sign Robert Lewandowski.

However, he is unlikely to join Tottenham Hostpur this summer as he has reportedly rejected a move to the North London outfit.

Meanwhile, Ajax ace Ibrahim Sangare has hinted on a move away from the Dutch giants.

The United target has stated that it would be a dream of his to play in the Premier League one day.

And the Red Devils have taken a HUGE blow in their pursuit of Darwin Nunez as Liverpool are reportedly planning a £85 million bid proposal for the Benfica talisman.

"That’s not a problem. But if he has to make this step now… that's another question. It is not so wise I think [to join United]. He has to play."

Timber worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax fuelling rumours that the new boss wants to work with the 20-year-old again.

United don't want Nunez bidding war

Man Utd and Liverpool are both interested in the £85million rated Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Manchester Evening News are reporting that despite their being no official budget on signings this summer, United are reluctant to spend "within their means and there is a limit to what they would pay for transfer targets."

Nunez scored an incredible 34 goals in 41 games for Benfica last season.

He has also become a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes perhaps suggesting his intention to leave Lisbon for a big club.

    Good morning United fans

Ralf Rangnick failed to make an impact at Man United because he wasn’t given enough time.

That’s the view of Real Madrid ace David Alaba who has been working with Rangnick since he became Austria’s new manager.

Man United team-mate Diogo Dalot has backed Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the new season.

Dalot says that Ron is a "machine that won’t stop any time soon".

Jurgen Klopp is confident he will beat Manchester United to land hitman Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool are ready with a package worth £75million — an initial £68m fee plus add-ons — to beat their rivals to the Benfica striker.

Harry Maguire’s wife Fern Hawkins has shown off her huge diamond ring after marrying the Manchester United captain.

Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong will be the “perfect fit” for Man United’s midfield in the wake of Paul Pogba’s exit.

And Jesse Lingard is all about the wild partying in Las Vegas.

Jesse Lingard has been labelled as a “legend” after splashing out on two bottles of champagne for his adoring fans as he joined in on their stag do, writes Jake Lambourne.

The 29-year-old took to his Instagram story last week to show him partying in Las Vegas, where he was serenaded by partygoers.

Lingard was showered with compliments, with the person stating he spoke to everyone on the stag do and was more than happy to take pictures with them.

    Klopp 'confident' for Nunez

Jurgen Klopp is confident he will beat Manchester United to land hitman Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool are ready with a package worth £75million — an initial £68m fee plus add-ons — to beat their rivals to the Benfica striker.

But Klopp knows Anfield owners FSG do not want to break the £75m club-record fee they paid for Virgil van Dijk, despite the Portuguese side demanding £85m.

Uruguay hero Nunez, 22, is also a target for new United boss Erik ten Hag but they do not want to be dragged into a bidding war.

Newcastle, boosted by their Saudi riches, are willing to pay the asking price for Nunez, who scored 32 goals last season.

But Man Utd and Newcastle know that the lure of Champions League football at Anfield is likely to rule them out.

Pogba and Juve a perfect fit?

Juventus are hot favourites to re-sign Paul Pogba as Real Madrid and PSG switch their focus to other midfielders.

The Manchester United star's agents are 'discussing 'final details' of a free transfer return to the Italian club of his pomp from 2012 to 2016.

European champions Real are instead being linked with Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni, while PSG are keen on RB Leipzig main man Christopher Nkunku, who also interests Chelsea and the Red Devils.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims Juve are 'more than confident' of luring Pogba when his Old Trafford contract runs out on June 30.

Pogba, 29, has insisted his priority for his next club is happiness rather than trophies.

Louis van Gaal has taken aim at former Man United chief Ed Woodward.

Woodward has been replaced by new CEO Richard Arnold who could help Erik ten Hag be successful as United’s manager.

Van Gaal told Voetball International: “There is now a new leadership, it was Woodward and now it is Richard Arnold.

“And that can make the difference, so we have to wait and see. He [Ten Hag] has a lot of confidence. So who am I to say something about that?”

Ralf Rangnick failed to make an impact at Man United because he wasn’t given enough time.

That’s the view of Real Madrid ace David Alaba who has been working with Rangnick since he became Austria’s new manager.

Alaba, who labelled Rangnick world class, told The Athletic: “He has been really good, you can see we have a really good plan and you can see it works for us on the pitch.

“He doesn’t want us to let the opponents breathe air. It is good for us. I have known Ralf since I was 18 years old and he is a world-class coach.

“What he did in the past is something special and now I am seeing it close up. He showed what he can do at Leipzig, Salzburg and Hoffenheim.

“He didn’t have a lot of time in Manchester. He has a really good plan and knows a lot about football.”

    Ron the machine

Cristiano Ronaldo is a machine that won’t stop any time soon, according to his Man United team-mate Diogo Dalot.

Dalot told United’s media: “I think the stats can speak for themselves.

“He’s a machine, like I like to call him. Inside of the pitch, outside of the pitch, the way he works, the way he drives himself every single day to perform like this, to give us these goals and these performances.

“I think it’s a plus for this club and for the fans and, hopefully, we can stay with him for many, many years. I know he is not going to be here forever but I’m sure that he will play football for a few more years yet.”

The couple wedded in secret at Crewe Registry Office last month ahead of a bigger ceremony this summer.

They are due to take their marriage vows in public in France in the coming months at a much bigger ceremony at a romantic chateau.

    United urged to sign Timber

Man United need to sign Ajax ace Jurrien Timber to get the club to a higher level.

That’s the opinion of former Ajax star Marciano Vink, who reckons United are lacking the quality Timber will provide.

Vink told ESPN: “He’s a good defender but most of all he anticipates really well.

“Those kinds of players you need to bring in to Man Utd to get to a higher level. I know for England they’re not common or well-known names but you need to start playing football again.

“I have seen many matches of Man Utd and it was lacking pace, football, there were too many players satisfied playing for Man United and not eager to win, not eager to play for the club.

“[Ten Hag] has to change the behaviour, mentality in the club and it’s going to take a while.”

    De Jong’s ‘perfect’ for United

Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong will be the “perfect fit” for Man United’s midfield in the wake of Paul Pogba’s exit.

Pogba left United this summer after his contract expired.

His exit has left a void in United’s midfield that transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio reckons De Jong is apt to fill.

Di Marzio told wettfreunde: “De Jong for Man Utd is perfect for next season where Pogba is not playing anymore.

“It depends on Barcelona if they have to sacrifice him.”

"So we were at Marquee beach club in Las Vegas for my friend's stag do and then from the cabana next door, in popped Jesse Lingard.

"A few of the boys are big Manchester United fans so they were going absolutely wild, my friend Dean, he's a season ticket holder at Old Trafford.

    Man United enquire about Bastoni

Man United have enquired about the possibility of signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to reports.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is keen to bring him to North London, but he will now have to fend off competition from Man Utd.

According to The Mail, the Red Devils have opened up a dialogue with Inter in an attempt to snatch the defender away from Tottenham.

It comes after a difficult season for United’s centre-backs – with Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane failing to form a solid partnership.

And back-up defenders Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have struggled to secure a consistent run in the team, meaning new boss Erik ten Hag is set to dip into the transfer market.

Now Akanji’s representatives are looking for a move to the Premier League and are targeting Arsenal as potential buyers.
