Matt Chapman tips: I'm taking on the Royal Ascot favourites & have unearthed an eye-catching 8-1 shot | The Sun

START with a bang!

That’s what they say, isn’t it? Well it’s certainly the case today when arguably the world’s greatest Flat meeting gets under way with the undisputed world’s top racehorse Baaeed.

What a start at Royal Ascot 2022 and every race is live on ITV. Bring it on.

Baaeed bangs out in the opening Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes over a mile.

Not every race can be a huge betting heat for the average punter and it's hard to make an angle in here.

Baaeed was brilliant at this track in the QEII and the opposition is weak so it's clear to most that he will win bar an accident for William Haggas and Jim Crowley. The Lockinge hero should hack up.

ROYAL ARRIVAL

Will The Queen be at Royal Ascotand which horses does she have running?

It won’t be so easy to find the winner in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes for juveniles over six furlongs.

One thing noting here is the market leaders have looked good in very small fields.

I'll take a chance with BRADSELL who looked an absolute monster on debut at York for Archie Watson.

The horse only cost 12,000gns as a yearling, but he later sold for 47,000 pounds and a debut win by nine lengths could not have been more impressive. The form has a little substance and Hollie Doyle rides.

It's a guessing game with the juveniles but hopefully we are in there with a chance against more obvious types from bigger yards.

The Group 1 King's Stand is over five furlongs. I'll stick with the Meydan improver MAN OF PROMISE who looked awesome during the winter months and was unlucky to be beaten when last seen when the draw was against him.

The Charlie Appleby runner will travel like a machine off the assured strong gallop – it's what he needs – and might be good enough to come powering through if the internationals disappoint.

Have a few quid on eachway and hope William Buick has a decent spin.

Golden Pal is a speedball for the US and Nature Strip a fascinating pensioner at the age of eight for the pensioners.

The 2000 Guineas hero Coroebus is back in the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes over a mile.

This is a little like Baaeed's race but Coroebus faces a new challenge here in My Prospero who stays well so I would not want to lump on at a short price.

Also from stall two Coroebus could get blocked in. I'm going to back BERKSHIRE SHADOW eachway for James Doyle and Andrew Balding.

My hope kept on well when fourth in the Dewhurst and when fifth in the 2000 Guineas.

Stall 10 is a bit high but he can slot in and is a huge price for a horse with his ability and experience. Nothing ventured…

Matt Chapman Day 1 Royal Ascot tips

In the Ascot Stakes I’ll be with COLTRANE eachway for Andrew Balding and Callum Hutchinson who takes off a crucial 5lb.

Of course there are Irish possible blots on the handicap in this, but the Chester Cup runner-up is actually down 2lb here when you take his rider's claim into account and he kept on well in May.

My main hope comes in the Listed Wolferton Stakes. JUAN ELCANO is the defending champion and I see no reason why he won't go in again.

He's sure to get a good gallop to run at with Majestic Dawn in the line-up and while he was last of three at Sandown last time he made the running there which is not his thing and actually kept on well.

Andrea Atzeni is up again for his retained owner and Kevin Ryan trains. Has strong eachway chances.

Finally in the Copper Horse Handicap I'll risk a few quid eachway on the old boy NOT SO SLEEPY for Hughie Morrison and Adam Kirby. On hurdle ratings a mark of 99 is not impossible.

Good luck!
