Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price produced "pub darts" in a nightmare leg at the Premier League.

Two of the finest talents in darts proved they are both fallible with ample missed doubles during a leg that looked like it may never end. But Van Gerwen was able to put the chaos behind him and claimed back-to-back Premier League victories on Night Five in Exeter to extend his lead at the top of the table.

The "Green Machine" was in ominous form once again despite his rare double disaster as he eventually brushed past fiery Price and Nathan Aspinall before defeating Jonny Clayton in the finale to claim the £10,000 prize.

But Van Gerwen's frantic third leg against Price was more reminiscent of a local pub league match as the pair struggled to settle in on the Exeter stage.

Van Gerwen bust his score when targeting D9 after bizarrely hitting single seven to leave himself D1. And Price could not check out his favoured D20 as the comedic errors began.

Van Gerwen eventually missed 10 darts as double as the Sky Sports commentator exclaimed: "Can Van Gerwen put an end to this nonsense? No the silliness continues!"

Price eventually sealed the scrappy leg with his fourth dart at D2 as he clenched his fists in relief and an exasperated Van Gerwen looked on. And Sky Sports unsurprisingly captioned their clip of the poor efforts as "Pub Darts!".

The leg also had similarities with the decider in last week's finale in Dublin, where Price missed seven match darts before Van Gerwen held his nerve to close out the match.

And the Dutchman showed no nerves in Exeter on Thursday as he became the first player to win on two nights during the 2023 tournament.

"You have to keep believing in yourself. The pressure is on us and you have to perform," Van Gerwen said after his win. "To win, week after week, it feels good.

"Six points clear? I love it. I still didn't think I was at my best but I was at my best when I had to be today. Overall, I think it was a good night."
