Peter Wright given ‘short back and sides’ haircut in hilarious PDC announcement

Peter Wright has been given a bold new look by Paddy Power's 'marketing experts'.

The spoof introduction to their new venture as title sponsor of the PDC World Darts Championship includes cameos from the best players in the world – including the Scot.

The mock team were tasked with changing the image of the tournament – by taking away what makes each player iconic – including the hair and head paint worn by the two-time champion of the world nicknamed Snakebite.

AI assisted in showing the 53-year-old what he'd look like with a more common style – and his reaction was a comical one.

The Paddy Power duo said: "You’re getting a bit too old for the funny hair and the clown trousers."

Wright shook his head in disregard when asked to drop his style – after Gerwyn Price walked out over a change in nickname.

The 2021 world champion questioned Gerwyn 'Smart' Price as a nickname after the former Asda range – and also a suggestion of going by Gerwyn 'Half' Price and losing half of his muscle mass.

Which of the new suggestions is the best? Tell us in the comments section below.

Next up was three-time champ Michael van Gerwen explaining why he couldn't change his nickname to The Wizard due to Simon Whitlock already having it – and swearing when told he couldn't wear a cape.

Former Matchplay winner Dimitri Van den Bergh was then gutted when told to drop his iconic dancing walk-on, dropping his head in disbelief.

Last but my no means least was reigning champion Michael Smith – who looked bemused when told to drop his Bully Boy nickname.

Smith was told to walk-on with his young family and go by the name The Smiths – while singing along to This Charming Man.

Paddy Power will be the lead sponsor for the annual tournament at Alexandra Palace, which runs from December 15 to January 3.

Paddy Power's Michelle Spillane has said of the partnership: “Getting stuck into a sponsorship as iconic as the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace is hugely exciting for our brand, and we can’t wait to make our mark…maybe just not directly on the pro players!"

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter added: "We’re delighted to welcome Paddy Power back to darts as our new title sponsors of the World Darts Championship.

"A deal which they’ve announced in their typically unique fashion with the help of some of our biggest stars.

"The World Darts Championship is the flagship event in our sport, and Paddy Power’s involvement will add extra excitement to an event which is already the highlight of the festive sporting period."
