Real Madrid weighing up shock transfer for relegated Leeds star as Championship side desperately battle to keep him | The Sun

LEEDS forward Rodrigo is in the dark over his Elland Road future as Real Madrid weigh up a move.

The Spanish forward, 32, bagged 13 Prem goals last season but could not stop the Whites from dropping into the Championship.

One of the few Leeds players to emerge from a disastrous season with any credit, United are desperate to keep the ex-Bolton star who cost £26million from Valencia in 2020.

But Los Blancos are believed to be eyeing Rodrigo as a replacement for Mariano Diaz, with the Dominican Republic forward set to leave on a free transfer.

Speaking on international duty with Spain, Rodrigo said: "I live in the real world and I have Instagram.

"I can’t tell you much beyond what we all know because I don’t know.

"I’ve very focused on the national team now.

"Then, I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen, but I have a contract with Leeds and that has to be protected."

Another Leeds player who could be heading for the exit door is keeper Illan Meslier.

He was dropped by Sam Allardyce at the end of the campaign for Joel Robles following a series of blunders.

Chelsea, who will listen to offers for stoppers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, have shown an interest in the 23-year-old Frenchman.

But Meslier said: "If it is to go and be on the bench, I’m not interested in that.

"If it’s to be the number one, of course, you can’t say ‘I’m not interested in Chelsea.’

"I’d prefer to go to a less reputable club where I’ll have more game time than a top European club where I’d sit on the bench.”
