Ryan Moore given 'one of the biggest fines in history' and banned after 'incredible' Auguste Rodin win | The Sun

RYAN MOORE has been slammed with a record-breaking fine for his incredible winning ride on Auguste Rodin at the Breeders' Cup.

The Brit gave a clinic in race riding when steering Auguste Rodin to a £1.7million payday in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

He looked to be trapped on the rail as they turned into the straight but in classic Moore fashion, there was no panic involved.

The horses ahead of him fanned out as they entered the straight and Moore dived into the rail gap.

Dual Derby winner Auguste Rodin glided into the lead and under the Moore drive, he was never being caught.

There was a sting in the tail for Moore, however, who was slapped with a whopping £16,740 fine for overuse of the whip.

Moore used the whip seven times, once over the permitted level under California rules, also earning him a one-day suspension.

The financial punishment set a record for the biggest ever handed out in the US state, according to drf.com.

And it's jarring how much he had to pay back given Auguste Rodin's trainer Aidan O'Brien was in awe of what he called an 'incredible' ride.

It wasn't all bad, however.

Moore, widely regarded as the best jockey in the world, hoovered up over £2m in winning prize money over the weekend.

He also won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf on Unquestionable and suffered narrow defeats on Warm Heart in the Filly & Mare Turf and Aesop's Fable in the Turf Sprint.

Punters were unanimous in their praise of Moore despite his defeat on Warm Heart, who gave the horse a peach but was beaten by a Frankie Dettori special on Inspiral.

Earlier this year Jim Crowley was hit with a 20-day suspension and £10,000 fine for his winning King George ride on Hukum.

He went three strokes over the limit of six when beating Westover.
