The BHA need to improve their ridiculous decision making process after Sean Levey drugs test saga drags on for 10 months | The Sun

IT must be a weight off Sean Levey’s mind to have finally received the all clear from the BHA.

Everyone in the sport knew he'd done nothing wrong, despite failing a drugs saliva test at the back-end of last year.

But they have only just made the announcement official, that he was the victim of a false positive. It can’t have been nice for Sean having that hang over you all this time.

And let's not forget, it potentially cost him a £20,000 Racing League bonus as he was forced to sit out the final fixture while they waited for his 'B' sample.

I can’t believe it has taken the BHA so long to put this to bed – we are talking 10 months for goodness sake.

In my dealings with them in the past it has always shocked me how slowly everything happens.

I understand there needs to be proper procedure, but something like that should have been on speed dial.

It also seems to take forever if you have a horse throw up a positive sample at the races.

Coltrane had one back in 2020 and it took them over TWO YEARS for them to say to us, 'look we know it’s not your fault, but the horse is going to have to lose the race'.

It shouldn’t take that long and they need to look at their decision making processes. Covid was a convenient excuse back then but that’s not the case anymore.

It’s been a busy few days at Park House Stables but not for Chaldean, who left here the other day to go on a little mid-season holiday.

He has gone back to Juddmonte’s stud at Banstead Manor for a bit of R&R.

Nothing ever came to light after his run in France, I’m hoping it was just a very busy few months catching up with him.

We’ll get him back next month and there are lots of big races to target with him in the autumn.

Talking of big races, the King George is a belter and it’s just a shame we haven’t got a runner, because it would have been great to be involved in a race like that.

I like to collect racecards for some of our biggest races and the King George is one of them.

I’ve got 40 years worth tucked away in a drawer – Anna-Lisa tells me they are probably worth a few quid so I have to keep her away from them!

But this is like a race from a bygone era, with the three-year-olds and the older horses taking each other on.

I hope it’s not a flash in the pan because these races and these horses are what British racing is all about.

It is a shame, though, that Desert Crown isn’t running, and it is a massive concern when these good horses keep picking up niggly injuries.

We had it with a horse called Elm Park, who I still think is one of the best we have ever trained.

He bolted up in the Futurity at Doncaster at the end of his two-year-old season, but he picked up a knock in the second half of his three-year-old campaign and we could never get him back.

He didn’t achieve even half of what we thought he was capable of and it must be soul-destroying for the Stoute yard.

Looking ahead to next week, we are going to be sending a big team down the A31 to Goodwood.

Coltrane will be our big gun and I’m expecting him to run very well in the Goodwood Cup on Tuesday.

John Gosden has Gregory and Courage Mon Ami – who beat us in the Gold Cup – in contention and it’s not clear which one is going to run.

I’d rather it was the latter as I would fancy our chances of turning the tables on him, while we would have to give a big chunk of weight to the three-year-old.

As for today, our best chance of a winner is probably SISYPHUS STRENGTH (2.50 Newmarket).

He went off too hard in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot last time but we still have faith in him and he is in a much calmer waters this time.
