The Open 2022 betting tips, predictions, latest odds and FREE BETS | The Sun

THE 150th Open takes place at St Andrews in less than ONE MONTHS time – and is set to be an historic occasion.

The world’s top players will be looking to win the Claret Jug on the most famous golf course in the world.

Collin Morikawa will be defending, after his success at Royal St George’s last year, and Tiger Woods has said he will be there.

Woods called the Old Course at St Andrews his favourite in the world after finishing 47th in his comeback at the Masters.

Woods has won three Opens, including both 2000 and 2005 at St Andrews.

Zach Johnson won the last one at St Andrews though and Louis Oosthuizen before him, showing it’s not bombers only and that length will not be the only deciding factor.

The course is known for its quirky contours and will need creativity around the greens and composure on them.

Following the second major of the year, where Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship and after Scottie Scheffler picked up his first at the Masters, Jon Rahm is the 8/1 favourite with Sky Bet.

The top ranked European player just shades Rory McIlroy at 12/1 ahead of a big group at 14s which includes Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Thomas and Scheffler.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are up next at 16/1 despite their struggles this year.

Woods is currently 40/1 after withdrawing three rounds into the PGA and his 47th place finish at the Masters.

Others to watch include Danny Willett (125/1) who won the Alfred Dunhill Links last year and Tyrrell Hatton (28/1) who won it back to back in 2016 and 2017 which is also played at St Andrews.

Who should you back?

Betting on golf this far out can be difficult and most bookmakers will only be offering five or six places, which will then get boosted to as many as 11 or 12 on the week of the tournament – but odds will likely shrink.

Although with Rahm already at 8/1 it’s hard to see someone starting shorter than that.

Morikawa is the defending champion, Shane Lowry won it at Portrush and Francesco Molinari at Carnoustie.

You have to go back to 2012 and Ernie Els to see the last multiple Open winner – showing this is perhaps the most open of the all the Majors.

It’s the only one outside America, it’s where the weather generally can be the biggest factor and is maybe the most different event from the regular PGA Tour week to week.

Hatton at 28/1 with Paddy Power is one we’ve got our eyes on with his two Dunhill titles. He was T13 in the PGA Championship despite being critical of the Southern Hills course.

He’s had a T6 and a T5 at Portush and Royal Troon. He’s won six times in Europe and won the Arnold Palmer in 2020 on the PGA Tour.

If he can keep his temper down he can certainly challenge in this one.
