UK Open darts draw cock-up as MC John McDonald reads out wrong player

There was a UK Open darts cock-up when Master Controller John McDonald read out the wrong player during Saturday's round of 16 draw.

McDonald was accompanied by darts legends Chris Mason and Alan Warriner-Little for the tournament's draw, following the end of the fifth round. And McDonald was responsible for a gaffe whilst reading out the names for the ensuing round.

Mason drew out No.7 (which was Martin Schindler) but McDonald announced No.1 (Jeffrey De Zwaan). However, he swiftly corrected himself when prompted by Mason.

De Zwaan was the next name out drawn by Warriner-Little. And at the end of the draw, the trio could be immediately seen laughing at McDonald's cock up.

The MC's blooper comes after Dutchman De Zwaan eliminated former world champion Gerwyn Price with a resounding 10-8, after clawing himself back from 4-0 down. Price's exit will allow him to continue preparation for his potential rugby comeback at some point this year.

Meanwhile, German star Schindler defeated English ace and 2014 UK Open winner Adrian Lewis. During his win, Schindler averaged over 101. Now De Zwaan will face Rob Cross, who beat Steve Beaton 10-3.

And Schindler goes up against Jonny Clayton, who also defeated his opponent Jose de Sousa 10-3. Another name in the next round is Nathan Aspinall, who dumped Alan Soutar out of the competition a few days ago.

But Soutar endeared himself to fans with his touch of class during his defeat to Aspinall. The crowd appeared to try and put Aspinall of his game by making noise before he took his shot, but Soutar put his hand up to silence his supporters so his opponent could take the shot in peace.

One impressed fan said on Twitter: "Some game tonight. Respect to @soots180 for this he is a credit to the game." And fans can catch the sixth round games on Saturday evening from 7pm on ITV4.
