'Where is Sue Barker?' – BBC viewers shocked as Wimbledon legend is absent from day one of her last-ever SW19 | The Sun

BBC viewers were left shocked after Sue Barker was missing from day one of her last-ever Wimbledon.

The SW19 legend, 66, is calling time on her broadcasting career next month following 30 years on our screens.

And Barker left fans worried after she failed to kick-off the Beeb's coverage of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships – with ex-cricketer Isa Guha taking the lead.

Barker recently confirmed this would be her final fortnight at SW19 after three decades of fronting the BBC's coverage.

The 2022 tournament kicked off this morning, but Barker didn't grace our screens – with fans fearful they might have already missed her farewell.

Barker was reduced to tears at last week's Queen's tournament as she waved goodbye to the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.

BBC viewers took to Twitter in droves to ask where the Beeb legend was.

One wrote: "So shocked, the the BBC, have not got Sue Barker introducing the first part of Wimbledon, on the first day. It is her last Wimbledon!"

Another said: "Shocked me a bit to see Isa Guha presenting the opening of Wimbledon on BBC2 instead of Sue Barker. However someone has got to start replacing Sue.

"Isa is very good on cricket comms and presenting the highlights show. Intrigued to see how she does."

A third added: "Wimbledon is not the same without Sue Barker. You're sadly missed Sue."

One asked: "Sue Barker is retiring AFTER this year's Wimbledon, right?

But fear not, Barker WILL be at this summer's Wimbledon… she'll even be on our screens on day one.

The 66-year-old will be starting her shift in the afternoons this year and taking us through until the close of play.

She recently confessed she was calling time on her illustrious career as a broadcaster following her playing days because "the time is right".

Barker revealed: "Basically I just feel the time is right. It has been my dream job and I have loved every minute of it working so many great colleagues who I am going to miss so much.

"When I started I never thought I would manage 30 years. I had actually made up my mind to leave in 2017 because the hours were becoming very long and quite challenging.

"That would have been 25 years and seemed a good time, but I am so glad I made the decision to stay on.

"I’m very happy to be leaving with no regrets and on my own terms while I am still on top of the job, it just feels like the right time to go and leave it to others."
