Alex Greenwood is a football player who plays for Women's Super League club Manchester City and the England national team.

She was born on September 7, 1993.

In an interview with the Independent, the sportswoman opened up about "draining" attacks on social media that "wrecked" her.

Speaking about awful messages she received after signing for Manchester City, Alex said: "Even if your notifications are off, every time you go on social media to engage with your friends or whatever, it's there.

"And naturally as a human being, the negative ones stick. Those are the ones that play in your mind."

"I don't think people were aware of how badly it actually affected me, because I didn't let my football suffer," she added.

What clubs has Alex Greenood played for?

Defender Greenwood has played for Manchester City since September 2020.

Before that, she played for Olympique Lyonnais in the French Division 1 Féminine.

Alex began her career with Everton when she was just eight years old.

She then made her debut for the first team in 2010.

After Everton were regulated in 2014, Greenwood signed for Notts County on a two-year contract.

She moved to Liverpool in 2016 and was released from the club at the end of the 2017–18 season after 44 appearances and six goals.

In July 2018, it was announced that Greenwood was joining Manchester United for their inaugural season and would be their captain.

She debuted for the team in August of that year and moved to Olympique Lyonnais in October 2019.

How long has Alex Greenwood played for England?

Greenwood has played for the England national football team, known as the Lionesses, since 2014 and has gained 75 senior England caps in that time.

She first captained England during an Arnold Clark Cup match in February 2023.

Greenwood was named as part of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup squad in May 2023.
