Wolves enter transfer chase for Blackburn star Ben Brereton-Diaz with Raul Jimenez ruled out of start of season | The Sun

WOLVES have reportedly joined the race to sign Blackburn striker Ben Brereton-Diaz.

Wanderers boss Bruno Lage has suffered a major blow on the verge of the new season after Raul Jimenez was ruled out for up to a month with a knee injury.

And that means the Portuguese coach is keen to bring in a replacement to lead the line.

According to Football League World, Wolves have enquired about signing Championship forward Diaz.

Blackburn want around £20million for the 23-year-old Chilean international.

Sevilla are said to be interested but are only willing to pay half of the asking price.

And that could leave the door open for Wolves to snap him up before the transfer window closes.

Diaz netted 22 times for the second tier side last season, with only Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dominic Solanke managing more goals in the division.

Blackburn triggered his one-year contract extension to keep him at the club for the 2022/23 campaign.

But his deal will still expire next summer, so Rovers may well opt to cash in on him now.

A host of other clubs are also thought to be monitoring Diaz's situation.

They include Real Betis, Valencia, Eintracht Frankfurt and Lyon.

Meanwhile, Wolves have signed two players already this summer in Burnley defender Nathan Collins and RB Leipzig forward Hee-chan Hwang – who made his loan move permanent.

But Ruben Vinagre was sold to Sporting Lisbon for £9m, while Romain Saiss, Marcal and John Ruddy all left at the end of their deals.

Wolves' opening game of their Premier League season comes away to Leeds on Saturday.
