60 Minute Makeover exposed as star admits renovations were never under an hour

TV star Craig Phillips has revealed that the renovations on ITV's hit show 60 Minute Makeover didn't all take place within an hour.

The professional builder and the first-ever winner of the UK's version of Big Brother joined the interior-based show in 2008 and became a key member of the hit series.

Previously hosted by well-known faces such as Claire Sweeney and Peter Andre, the show achieved great success before it came to an end in 2018.

But despite the main premise of the programme centering around home renovations that are miraculously completed in one hour, Craig, 51, who is now an ambassador for paint brand Frenchic, revealed that this was not the case.

Talking exclusively to Daily Star, Craig tried not give too much of the secret away but said: "It happens in the time that you see us recording it but it's the planning and preparation off camera that you don't always see to make us be able to do it in that time frame.

"Lets face it, what you see in the house happens in the 60 minutes because we shoot it in two 30-minute halfs.

"But what you don't see is what goes on in the street.

The star then went on to explain that a lot of things are done off camera beforehand.

He continued: "For example, for a kitchen, we are ripping out a kitchen and we're ripping it out on camera, they only need to use 20 or 30 seconds of that kitchen being dismantled.

"So off camera, we will go in, we will isolate all the boarded stuff, the electric, the gas, the water underneath disconnect it, put caps on everything- making sure it's all safe.

"The kitchen tops, we would have loosened all the plugs and undone all the legs," he explained.

"So on camera when they blow the whistle and we start and we go in and look like we're Superman," Craig said.

He added: "It happens in the time that you see us recording it but the planning and preparation off camera that you don't always see to make us be able to do it in that time frame.

The star also confessed that during the two half an hour slots, the workers go into the renovated home with hair dryers to quickly complete the makeover.

As well as appearing on other shows since such as Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Channel 5's Millionaire Age Gap Love in 2020, Craig is currently working as an ambassador for chalk paint brand, Frenchic.
